The Money Checklist
The habits, accounts and checks that stop the quiet leaks in your money. Tick through it once, then come back once a year.
Your ticks are saved on this device only. This checklist explains how things generally work. It is not financial, tax or legal advice, and fees and rules change, so check current terms with the provider before you act.
Everyday basics
Five habits that do most of the work. If you only do one section, do this one.
The 60-second check before any transfer
Most of the cost of moving money hides in the exchange rate, not the fee. These checks find it.
(mid-market rate − your rate) ÷ mid-market rate × 100Example: mid-market 4.97, you are offered 4.82. (4.97 − 4.82) ÷ 4.97 × 100 = 3.0%. On 2,000 that is 60 gone before any fee.The account setup that does the work
You do not need many accounts. You need the right four, each with one job.
Getting paid from abroad
If your income crosses a border, small leaks repeat every payday.
Spending abroad without the extras
Card machines and cash machines are where most travellers lose money without noticing.
Moving countries
The money part of a move is mostly paperwork and timing.
Red flags to walk away from
If you see one of these, stop and check before any money moves.
The yearly 10-minute review
Fees and free allowances change quietly. Once a year, check that your setup still earns its place.
Your setup at a glance
Fill this in once, on screen or on paper. It makes the yearly review take two minutes.
